Choosing Aluminum as a Louver Material
The major advantages of manufacturing aluminum louvers are aluminum’s low cost and ease of maintenance. In most cases, these louvers are light, durable and with aluminum’s high strength to weight ratio, they will still offer sufficient strength for many applications. On average, an aluminum louver is lighter by as much as two thirds compared to a stainless steel louver. Additionally, aluminum is a rust resistant material making these louvers less likely to rust over time and in industrial type applications.
While aluminum louvers are sufficient for many applications, aluminum is not as strong as steel. For heavier duty applications, our industrial-strength, steel louvers may be a more appropriate option. In high temperatures, aluminum expands twice as much as steel, which should be a factor in deciding which material should be used for your louver depending on your particular application.
